Cardio for the St. Louis Winter

Man I love to workout.  Everyday I go into the gym excited.  I can’t wait to do the squats, pull ups, and presses.  Each day I’m working on getting stronger and becoming more powerful.  After those lifts I start working an body parts.  I focus on the weak  areas and do three or four exercises to bring it up to par.

Oh yeah, I thought I was going to finish up with some cardio.  The plan was to ride the elliptical for a half hour or run on the treadmill on an incline for 1 mile.  But alas, I am already worn out from the fun stuff.  Plus, I would not dare to increase my cortisol levels and get fat.

But, I have found a remedy for my lack of modivation.  This remedy is called complexes.  A complex is a series of exercises preformed without ever letting go of the bar or weight.  Complexes are excellent when it comes to interval training.  Also, it is too intense to get bored and only takes 15 minutes so you are out of the gym in no time.

Above is an example of one of my favorite complexes.  It’s called Tumminello’s Weight Plate Metabolic Circuit.  The reason why I like this complex is because it includes some of my favorite exercises. Also, it is tough to grip the plate after awhile and not to mention my heart ends up in my throat after about the third set.

To preform this complex, do six reps for each of the exercises in the video, rest for 90 seconds, and repeat for a total of five sets.  Once your conditioning is improved, add more reps to the sets or do more sets all together.

Now, before you run out that door with your post workout shake, grab one of those 45’s off of the leg press machine and go do a complex!
